# Q&A

##### What interested you in joining Highlander Health Partners?

I was immediately intrigued by the idea of teaming with experts in the space to make long-term purposeful investments. For a small team, we have broad resources. Our permanent capital is an asset that allows us to invest in systemic change that requires a long-haul orientation.

##### How would you describe your investment philosophy?

One is that I try to be collaborative. More viewpoints lead to better outcomes. What’s more, I will never know the business as well as those in it day to day. Second, we’re deeply thematic at Highlander Health Partners, and our investment themes are born out of experience and research.

##### What’s the one word that best describes how you partner with management?

Engaged. We’re building a concentrated portfolio so that we can give all of our energy to a few portfolio companies. That’s rare. A typical fund has dozens of investments.

##### If you hadn’t gone down the investing path, what would you be doing with yourself at this point?

I would probably be a residential architect to scratch the creative itch. But I interned at a hedge fund, and that’s all she wrote.

##### Given 15 minutes, how do you recharge your batteries? And given 15 days?

I do the WSJ crossword puzzle. Fifteen minutes isn’t enough on Sundays, but it certainly is on Mondays. I’m pretty restless, so one thing for 15 days would be a challenge. Time moves pretty quickly in the mountains, so that’s probably it — hiking, biking, fishing, and golfing."
